Re: this will work
see what I did there?
Sometimes simple is best. Most people send waaaay too many emails, too frequently, that are too long.
If you are using an automated email cadence/sequencing tool, adjust the settings of the second email so it goes out as a reply to your first email. This is some copy I’ve used that works great:
Wanted to circle back since its been a couple weeks. What are you guys doing with [your product/problem] today? -JV
This is one of my top performing emails. It is short, it uses your initials so it looks like it got sent from your phone, you aren’t pressuring them. You waited a couple weeks before sending. (19 days later is what I used).
It is so short it is easy to read in literally 2 seconds, and you can see the whole question on a phone. It is easy to respond to.
You’re going to be tempted to add your email signature to this or something…don’t do it.
You’re going to be tempted to spell out your full name… don’t do it.
Do not make the product/problem a long sentence. The “What are you guys doing with” part may need some tweaks depending on your business, a good alternative would be “How are you guys handling…”
Some examples:
This follow-up obviously has to be related to what you sent our in the first email. If the first email is a hundred miles long and has 14 calls to action, just following up on that won’t do a ton for you. But here are some examples.
For a paper shredding company: Wanted to circle back since its been a couple weeks. What are you guys doing to get rid of confidential documents today? -JV
For a concrete company: Wanted to circle back since its been a couple weeks. How are you guys handling your foundation pours today? -JV
For a sales training company: Wanted to circle back since its been a couple weeks. What are you guys doing to train new hires today? -JV
For a building maintenance company: Wanted to circle back since its been a couple weeks. How are you guys handling HVAC repairs today? -JV
For a software company selling customer feedback software: Wanted to circle back since its been a couple weeks. What are you guys doing with customer complaints today? -JV
Try it out and let me know how it goes.
